Congratulation to Matthew O'Brien and Adam Lackner
Congratulation to Matthew O’Brien and Adam Lackner who are both awarded the most distinguished University Medal for their excellent performance in Honours Physics at UNSW. The award of a University Medal indicates outstanding academic performance, significantly above the minimum requirements for Honours Class 1. Please join us in congratulating Matthew O’Brien and Adam Lackner.
Aydin Keser joined a group
Aydin Keser, a postdoctoral researcher, who is working on topological material topics, has joined our group.
Brief report on Gordon Godfrey Workshop 2019
The 2019 Gordon Godfrey Workshop on Spin and Strong Electron Correlations was held at UNSW, School of Physics, from 25 to 29 December 2019. The workshop brought together 120 scientists including 38 invited speakers from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Russia, The Netherlands, and USA. 30 PhD and Honours students and early career researchers presented their posters at the special evening session. They got acquainted with each other through hot discussions in the fields of quantum, theoretical and condensed-matter physics. The new ideas have been proposed and discussed at the conference with lively interest.
The 44th Condensed Matter and Materials Meeting, Rotorua, New Zealand, 2020
The 44th Condensed Matter and Materials Meeting will be held in Rotorua, New Zealand, on 4 – 7 February 2020. This conference creates an opportunity for all condensed matter and materials scientists to meet in an informal atmosphere to discuss their current research, future directions and some other matters of importance in the field. Enjoy a stimulating scientific program at a wonderful New Zealand location.
New job positions advertised at the School of Physics, UNSW
The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia advertised two full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate positions with the School of Physics. The postdoctoral scholar will work in the group of Prof. Oleg Sushkov. The Postdoctoral Research Associates will perform independent research on theoretical condensed matter physics. The primary tasks and focus of the first position are quantum transport, topological materials, spintronics, electron-electron interactions. (UNSW Job no: 497666). The primary tasks and focus of the second position are electron correlations in quantum materials, spin liquids, and topological excitations. (UNSW Job no: 497667).
Anticipated start date is November 2019. Please apply online. For more information see Jobs@UNSW website.
